THE CORNWATER CLUB
The Club opens on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 10 am to 2.3O pm. In August 2008 we moved from Ravenshead Leisure Centre, where we had been based since our inception, to RAVENS LODGE, the Scout HQ, on Main Road, Ravenshead.
A small daily charge covers a two-course lunch and all activities. Refreshments including tea, coffee, soft drinks and biscuits, are provided at no extra cost.
We aim to provide a stimulating yet relaxed atmosphere throughout.
ACTIVITIES
Varied activities are arranged throughout the day. The interests of those attending the Cornwater Club shape the programme, which currently includes Movement to Music, art classes, travel talks and slides, sing-alongs, flower arranging, crafts, demonstrations, quizzes and table games. There are opportunities to hear talks on a variety of topics including benefits and health advice.
SERVICES
Massage
Manicure
Chiropody
A small charge is made for these services, which are provided by specialists.
OUTINGS AND VISITS
Outings to places of interest, garden centres and local attractions are organised throughout the year. There are also occasional theatre trips and a weekend away. Shopping visits to local supermarkets can be arranged on a door-to-door basis. During the summer there are additional short trips for afternoon tea.
The annual holiday is a popular item on the programme. This year it was in the Lake District. A report and photographs are in What's New.
THE THURSDAY CLUB
This is intended to cater for those older local residents who may be forgetful or confused, who need a little closer care than is possible at the Cornwater Club sessions and who may welcome a slightly quieter atmosphere. We also aim to provide a few hours' respite for their carers.
Meeting only on Thursdays, also at Ravens Lodge, the basic pattern is the same as the Cornwater Club but the programme and activities are designed for members who need a little more help in coping.
Additional criteria are involved in assessing those referred for membership of the Thursday Club.
Staff and volunteers have received special training, with the emphasis on person-centred care.
TRANSPORT
Door-to-door transport is available for those members living in Ravenshead and Blidworth wishing to attend either Club for the day. The Ravenshead Village mini-buses, which provide all our transport needs, have wheelchair access and we provide an escort. There is a small charge for this service.
There have been a total of 1890 visits since 22/01/08
